Artpriceomat

The “Artpriceomat” is a reaction to the fact that for most artists, exhibiting their work costs more than the financial returns an exhibition produces.

The “Artpriceomat” is Martin Gut’s solution to this problem.

The idea is freely available. All artists and curators of group exhibitions are encouraged to actively come up with their own solutions or copy the idea of the Artpriceomat.

Rarely are works of art the focal point of economic efficiency. Instead, the artist’s uncompromised freedom of expression and the ability to manifest his/her own philosophies are at the forefront, and mostly requirements of the art itself.

This situation, however, is not carried by expense allowances or fee-billing. The exhibiting artist earns from the sale of his/her works. Even in subsidised Galleries and Culture Centres where everyone from the Cashier to the Curator gets paid a salary, there often lacks adequate remuneration for the contents of the exhibition.

The peak of decadence is reached by very clever art agents and mediators, who insist that the artist be seen as a customer. Whoever wants to exhibit their work, should pay to do so. Such a perverse model.

Martin Gut’s Artpriceomat calls upon the exhibition visitors to bid for an artist in a group exhibition. with these bids and votes, a price for the art work is determined, which will be awarded at the closing date of the exhibition.

One swiss franc is equal to one vote. The number of times one can vote is not restricted. One third of the sum of the votes goes directly to the artist who received the votes. One third is shared amongst the other artists. The remaining third of the pot goes to the winner (the artist with the most number of votes).
