Doubly Accounting

Probably the most frequent question with which artists are confronted is: "Can you live from making art?"

Martin Gut mocked this question by placing his own income at the centre of his activity and displaying it as a worksituation.

On the occasion of the opening of the "Neuen Kunsthalle, Lucerne" he sat with an improvised office complete with accounting material in front of the KKL Lucerne which cost a mere 26.5 million Swiss Francs. His activity was one of six which were carried out in Lucerne on that day.

From 8.15 am to 12 am and from 1.15 pm to 5 pm Martin Gut kept his doubly accounting and announced that he would fill out his tax declaration. He abided to the conventions of offices and broke off his work at the traditional pauses in swiss administration offices - at 9am there was coffee and croissants, lunch was at 12 am and finally some coffee and cake at 3.15 pm.

Any questions?
