Encounter

Encounter, Martin Gut 2000

The I in my Opponent.

The room is in pig orange, the floor in juicy green and the ceiling dirt brown - approximately at eye level runs a ribbon with eyes across all walls. The eyes of individuals spread over every age group behold in a friendly, but strict manner. In the middle of the room there is a very low hanging light bulp. No matter on which eye pair I fix my gaze, I`m always physically in the way of having a proper encounter by throwing the shadow of my own body onto the stranger. Martin Gut: The art installation encounter is about our inability to comprehend our counterparts. The fact that we always want to manifest oursels in the other preconditions it. Martin Gut resolves the interpersonal aspect of encounters by means of a subtle shadow play.
